In the summer of 2015, 21-year-old Lauren Agee left home excited for a weekend of music, friends, and lakeside adventure in Tennessee. She never came back.

In July 2015, Lauren joined several close friends for “WakeFest,” a popular wakeboarding and music festival held near Center Hill Lake. Friends described her as energetic, athletic, and full of life a talented dancer and gymnast who loved adventure and the outdoors.
The group camped on top of a rocky cliff overlooking the lake, a dangerous drop estimated to be around 90 feet high. Throughout the day, everything appeared normal. Photos and social media posts showed smiling faces, drinks, music, and a summer atmosphere that looked perfect from the outside.
But by the next morning, Lauren was gone.
At first, her friends reportedly assumed she had wandered off or gone elsewhere nearby. No immediate panic. No urgent search. No desperate calls for help.
Hours later, boaters on the lake made a horrifying discovery.

The Injuries That Raised Immediate Suspicion
Authorities quickly ruled Lauren’s death an accidental drowning caused by a fall from the cliff while intoxicated.
But many people especially Lauren’s mother, Sherra Smith believed the official explanation did not match the evidence.
Lauren’s body reportedly showed severe bruising, cuts, internal injuries, and trauma to areas including her neck and back. Independent investigators later argued that some injuries appeared inconsistent with a simple accidental fall.
Another disturbing detail: when Lauren’s body was recovered, she was wearing only a bikini bottom and top. Her personal belongings, clothing, and other items were found scattered in unusual ways near the campsite and cliff area.
To her family, it looked less like an accident and more like something violent had happened before she entered the water.

Strange Behavior From the Friends Who Were With Her
One of the most unsettling aspects of the case involves the behavior of the people who were camping with Lauren that night.
According to later reports and court filings, the group’s actions after Lauren disappeared appeared oddly calm and detached. Instead of immediately contacting authorities when she was missing, some continued partying and spending time on the lake.
Even more suspicious to many observers was what allegedly happened after Lauren’s body was found.
Rather than staying behind to cooperate fully or comfort Lauren’s family, members of the group reportedly packed up their campsite and left the area quickly.
Critics have argued that their stories changed over time, while others questioned why key details about the final hours before Lauren disappeared never fully aligned.
No criminal charges were ever filed against any of the friends who attended the trip.

Claims of Assault and Deleted Messages
As independent investigators and journalists dug deeper into the case, additional allegations surfaced.
There were suggestions that Lauren may have been uncomfortable around at least one male friend during the trip. Some reports claimed there may have been unwanted advances or aggressive behavior before her death, though these allegations were never conclusively proven in court.
Years later, volunteer investigator Chris Yarchuk reportedly uncovered evidence that large numbers of text messages connected to the group had been deleted after Lauren died.
For Lauren’s family, this discovery intensified suspicions that important information may have been hidden or destroyed.
At the same time, critics accused local investigators of failing to preserve evidence properly during the early stages of the case including possible blood traces and forensic material near the campsite.

Lauren’s mother refused to accept the official ruling of accidental drowning.
